FAVORITE NATURE APPS (AND THEY ARE ALL FREE!)
For all of your plant, animal, insect, and fungi identification needs:
iNaturalist – simply take a photo of the organism and allow iNaturalist to give you an id. You can search for information about that organism as well.
Seek – uses the database from iNaturalist. A great tool for beginners and it’s kid friendly.
For our bird lovers:
Merlin – my favorite function in this app is the sound recording. It will identify the birds that can be heard around you.
For stargazing:
Stellarium – just point the camera up at the night sky, and it will show you where the constellations and planets are.
TOP FACEBOOK GROUP PICKS
What kind of snake is this? North Texas Educational Group – I have learned so much about snakes from this group. How to identify them, how they behave, how they contribute to our environment. I can’t recommend this enough, especially for any “the only good snake is a dead snake” individuals out there. No judgement here, I believed that myself for a long time.
Antman’s Hill – Extremely helpful when it comes to identifying and understanding bugs and insects.
Gardening Tips and Tricks – a lot of information about plants, animals, and insects – the good, the bad, and the ugly.
